The BPSC welcomes the historic agreement whereby Geelong Council has agreed to purchase our land and buildings to make sure grassroots sport continues to survive and thrive in Batesford and surrounds.
As part of the agreement, funding from the City and the Victorian Government will be used to deliver a $1.4 million upgrade to facilities at the club, including female friendly change rooms.
The City will also complete a lighting upgrade for pitch one up to the value of $635,000, with funding from the Victorian Government.
This outcome has been a long time in the making and will ensure we can grow sporting opportunities for all participants.
We extend thanks to Councillors Anthony Aitken, Kylie Grzybek and Eddy Kontelj, for supporting us in this historic announcement. We also thank our entire council chamber and Council officers for facilitating this amazing outcome for the Geelong community.
The BPSC Board looks forward to finalising the details of this agreement in coming months. We recognise that this announcement may raise some eyebrows but remain acutely aware that the task of maintaining playing fields, financing, and building major infrastructure is not a viable proposition moving forward for a small but dedicated volunteer group. We are grateful that over the last two years at consecutive AGM’s that we have had the full support of the Members. This outcome ensures that current and future Members can focus on enjoying and growing the world game. The blood, sweat and tears of past and current members that laid the foundations for our amazing Club will never be forgotten. We thank you for your vision, can do attitude and opening the doors to all newcomers!
